A nearly 40 year-old workhorse, this John Deere 4400 combine operated by Steve Reh harvests corn in New Lebanon, Illinois. Steve's father, Pete, was shuffling grain carts around using a John Deere 720 tractor. youtu.be The combine has a 6 cylinder, 100 HP engine. The capacity of the grain tank is 90 bushels. Compared with newer combines of about 4 times the grain capacity and horsepower. A few photos begin here: flic.kr I was hoping to find some of the last remaining northern Illinois corn harvesting to video. It was a very windy day, so I by-passed a few opportunities to try to find one situated so I could block the wind a bit. No luck. So I was heading home for the day when I saw this 4400 working. I had previously seen it parked and did not realize that it was a working combine. So when I saw it in the field, I decided to not worry about the wind. Luckily, later, I was able to back up against some rows of not yet harvested corn to help block the wind. ___________________________________ Anyone wishing to get in touch concerning this or any other of my farming videos please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
